UPS driver robbed at gunpoint at Riva mall in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Every day, UPS drivers face the challenge of delivering goods while time is running out, but it all came to a halt when a driver had packages stolen at the Festival at the Riva Mall in Annapolis Wednesday.

“Incredible. I can’t believe it,” said Gladys Downs of Gambrills who shops at the center, “So where is the world at?

The driver has just dropped off a delivery behind Party City and was heading to his truck when he was intercepted by a malicious man.

“He was approached by an unknown male who showed a handgun, forced him into the truck, forced him down and called another suspect to the truck to help him,” said Marc Limansky of the Anne Arundel County Police Department. “They went to the back of the truck…removed some packages.

Three or four packages to be exact, then the suspects fled the scene in a dark colored Infiniti sedan and were last seen turning onto Riva Road.

Why the two men would arm a delivery driver for random goods baffles the police.

“They’re using a gun to get something they don’t know what they’re getting,” Limansky said.

But they raised the stakes far beyond any shoplifting or porch theft, risking lengthy prison sentences in the process.

“And I guess it doesn’t matter to them as long as they get something, but was the person safe?” said Downs, “God bless them.” God bless them.”

“If you saw anything unusual at the mall on Wednesday or have any information about the theft, the suspects or their vehicle for that matter, you can call Anne Arundel County Police at 410-222-4700 .
