TREDYFRIN TWP., Pa. (WPVI) — A 17-year-old man was robbed and carjacked at gunpoint while out shopping in Chester County’s Tredyffrin Township on Monday afternoon.
It happened around 5.15pm while the victim was buying milk from Target at the Devon Square Shopping Center.
“He started his vehicle, went to put it in reverse, two men entered the passenger side of his vehicle. According to the victim, the two (suspects) pointed guns at him, demanded his key fob, his wallet and told him to get out of the vehicle,” said Detective Sergeant Jim Slavin of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department.
According to the police, one of the suspects then stole the victim’s car. The other suspect drove off in a separate Nissan Altima.
Authorities say the victim was not physically injured.
Locals say this incident is irrelevant for the area.
“It’s really very concerning because one of the things I always talk about and why I moved to the area is because I feel like it’s so safe, especially as a wife,” said Brenna Fallows of Wayne.
The victim’s car was later found in Philadelphia.
The police do not know who did this or why.
A resident said she was frustrated that she had not been informed of the crime sooner.
“My daughter drives, my son drives, everyone’s here. My neighbor’s kids, they work here and stuff and we really should have been made aware and we want this to stop,” said Tina Reddy of Wayne.
Tredyffrin officials said they had not had a carjacking since 2019.
Police said there has been an increase in stolen vehicles in Chester County, with indications the suspects are moving out of Wilmington, Delaware.
Investigators do not know if this is the case in this carjacking. They are still looking for the two suspects.
Anyone with information is asked to call Tredyffrin Township Police.
