Shooting leaves 1 dead, 2 injured at Toms River Mall, officials say

One man died and two others were injured in a shooting at a Toms River mall early Saturday morning, the Ocean County District Attorney’s Office and the Toms River Police Department said in a statement.

The unidentified man who was killed was 29 years old. A 25-year-old man and a 29-year-old man were also shot during the incident, police said.

Officials said the shooting happened outside 1723 Hooper Avenue in Toms River around 1:20 a.m. The Asbury Park Press identified the location as a business called Top Tier Hookah Lounge and reported that the window in the front of the business had been smashed on Saturday. It is unclear whether the shooting was related to the company, which could not be reached immediately.

The 29-year-old was taken to Toms River Community Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. The other two men were transported to Monmouth County for treatment for their injuries. The 29-year-old is believed to be in critical but stable condition, and the 25-year-old has been treated and released, authorities said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Denis Mitchell of the Ocean County District Attorney’s Office at 732-929-2027, or Detective Jennifer Grob of the Toms River Township Police Department at 732-349 -0150.
