Sewickley Academy buys property next to a shopping center in Edgeworth

Officials at Sewickley Academy have purchased property in Edgeworth but are not yet giving details of site plans.

Nearly 42,600 square feet of land at 627 Beaver Road was purchased in early April for $825,000, according to the Allegheny County real estate website.

The land features a two-story red brick house with a side porch, as well as a black and gray wooden barn and nearly 40-foot flower bed.

Academy spokeswoman Jennifer Donovan confirmed via email that the purchase was made “due to its proximity to sports fields.” She said there was no timeline to make plans on its use.

Jim Millers, Director of Buildings and Grounds, offered a similar response.

“With the scarcity of land available in Sewickley, when a property opened up so close to our sports grounds, we felt we had to make an offer,” he said. “We are working with the municipality and look forward to determining, with their help, what are the best options for the use of the property. Depending on zoning and other regulations, we would really like to find a way for this space to benefit the whole community. »

The property is adjacent to Morrow-Pontefract Park and the Quaker Village Mall, specifically the Heritage Valley Heart and Vascular Center along Village Drive.

The property was previously owned by Barbara and Frank Wasco Jr., according to the county real estate website.
