Russia says targeted mall in Kyiv harbored rockets

The Ukrainian mall destroyed sunday by Russian bombing was intentionally targeted because it was storing rockets, a Russian official said on Monday.

The Russians, who struck the commercial center of kyiv with long-range weapons, killing at least eight people, identified the location as both a rocket storage facility and a reloading station for Ukrainians, according to Reuters.

“High-precision long-range weapons destroyed a Ukrainian multiple rocket launcher battery and an ammunition store in a broken down shopping center on the night of March 21,” the Russian ministry spokesman told reporters. Defense, Igor Konashenkov.

“The areas near the mall were used as a large base for storing rocket ammunition and for reloading several rocket launchers,” Konashenkov added.

He also shared a video with reporters, saying it was evidence that the Ukrainian military was using the center for weapons storage.

The spokesperson blamed Ukraine for the civilian deaths.

“We would like to remind Western media again: we have provided full evidence showing that the nationalist regime in Kyiv used civilian objects in residential areas of Kyiv and other cities as artillery and rocket firing positions “, Konashenkov said.

Konashenkov also addressed Ukrainian reports that Russia lacks personnel and equipment, calling them “propaganda lies”.
