// Next opens a new department store in Watford bringing together its fashion, home and beauty offering for the first time
// The store spans three floors and spans over 94,000 square feet
Next has opened a new department store that brings together the brand’s home, beauty and fashion offerings for the first time.
The store opened in Atria Watford, owned by property company SGS, where Next moved its existing clothing store to the site of Next Beauty & Home – which was one of its first beauty formats, which opened in October 2020.
The new store is almost three times larger than the original at 94,000 square feet.
The department store also has a 1,270 square foot Mamas & Papas concession and spans three floors.

The store also has an attached Victoria’s Secret, in which Next has a majority UK stake.
The 4,500 square foot lingerie retailer is connected to the main Next store and also has its own entrance.
The arrival of the megastore comes as Next moves towards a department store model. The retailer, which has a long history of selling fashion and homeware, has expanded its beauty business and introduced a range of concessions to its larger stores.
Its Oxford Street store includes Gap, Clarks, Paperchase and Costa Coffee concessions.
Steve Gray, Head of European Retail Asset Management at Global Mutual, said: “Next’s combined store is a UK first – which is hugely exciting – and the unit will now also incorporate Mamas & Papas, a brand much appreciated by our visitors.
“We are now seeing more and more retailers using concessions to diversify their offering and increase footfall – a trend that is expected to continue.
“We look forward to working closely with our new additions and are confident they will thrive here at Atria Watford – where healthy footfall, an attractive leisure offering and a strong mix of existing tenants act as a combination for success. “
Next is opening a second department store format in Manchester’s Trafford Center later this year.
