New shisha lounge planned for the section of the old department store

PLANS to turn a section of a former town center department store into a shisha lounge have been submitted to Bradford Council.

The Boyes store in North Parade closed when the company opened a new branch in the Kirkgate Center in 2019.

Since then the building has been divided into several smaller units and taken on new life as a place of leisure, with a virtual reality experience, a crazy golf course and a milkshake bar all housed in the former grand store.

Now, a planning request to convert a unit into a shisha bar and cafe has been submitted by Ambient Energy.

The plans will involve the creation of a new terrace on the roof of the building to create an outdoor smoking area.

Solar panels would also be installed on the roof of the building, one of the largest in Bradford’s ‘uptown’ area.

The proposed opening hours would be from noon to 2 am.

The application states: “The proposal will showcase another part of the former Boyes building, adding to the diversity of activities in the town centre.”

He says there is a large parking lot in the area.

A decision on the application is expected in August.
