Man punched and killed in Wilmington mall parking lot

A Massachusetts man has died after being hit by a vehicle in the parking lot of a Wilmington mall. East Gate Mall. Witnesses told police the man, a 79-year-old Tewksbury resident, was struck by the vehicle as he walked through the parking lot Police said the man was taken by ambulance to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, where he later died of his injuries. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, a 60-year-old Reading woman, remained at the scene , according to the police. No charges have been announced at this time. The crash is being investigated by the Wilmington Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Wilmington police said the pedestrian crash happened around 1:20 p.m. in the parking lot of 211 Lowell St., which is the address of the East Gate Mall.

Witnesses told police the man, a 79-year-old Tewksbury resident, was struck by the vehicle as he drove through the parking lot.

Police said the man was taken by ambulance to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, a 60-year-old Reading woman, remained at the scene, police said. No charges have been announced at this time.
