‘Joy is coming’: Jollibee begins construction of the Agana shopping center | New

Signage posted could be found on November 15, 2022, where the former Shirley’s restaurant in Hagåtña, indicating the future location of a Jollibee restaurant, is planned to be built near the Agana Shopping Centre.

Construction has begun on the future site of Filipino fast-food giant Jollibee within the grounds of Agana Shopping Center in Hagåtña, which is due to open in late 2023.

Cultural groups perform the official inauguration of Jollibee in Dededo on June 8, 2019.

Jollibee’s Hagåtña location seeks to reach more central and southern residents.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the community of Guam for their continued support and patience. We can’t wait to open our doors and share the joy closer to the south,” Franceen Chua, general manager of Heavenly Foods, owner of the Jollibee franchise in Guam, said Friday.

Jollibee by Micronesia Mall in Dededo covers northern and central customers. It opened in 2019 and marked Jollibee’s return to the Guam market.

The construction cost of Jollibee at the Agana Mall is $650,000 and the permit fee is $5,828.63, based on the building permit approved by the Department of Public Works dated November 4.

But the chain’s overall local investment will reach millions of dollars.

“We are investing significant resources in the opening of our Agana store. We don’t normally disclose specific investment numbers, but please know that we’re working hard to bring your Jollibee favorites to Agana very soon,” Chua said.

There are plans to build a third restaurant, and Yigo is one of the potential locations.

“Feeling Blessed”“We are thrilled and feel blessed to be building the second Jollibee restaurant here in Guam. We are delighted for the inhabitants of the center and the south of the island. They don’t have to drive all the way north for Jollibee,” according to Michael Owen Baluyut, president of IBBC Construction LLC, the company awarded the contract for the construction of the restaurant building.

His father’s Isagani Baluyut Construction, which he is also a part of, built the $2 million Jollibee on the grounds of the Micronesia Mall in Dededo.

Jollibee’s Agana Mall branch is being built on the same location where Shirley’s Coffee Shop once stood. Shirley’s Coffee Shop has returned to its original ocean-view location in Hagåtña.

Jollibee’s Hagåtña Building construction contract is for 15 months, Baluyut said.

He hopes all the materials needed to build the restaurant will arrive on time, amid ongoing pandemic-induced supply chain issues in many parts of the world.

Jollibee at Agana Mall will have a unique feature among all its restaurants around the world. It will have two drive-thru windows to complete the dining experience.

Global reach

Chua said the Hagåtña store “will showcase the brand new Jollibee design concept seen on the high streets of London in the UK, Madrid in Spain and soon Guam.”

“It’s complete with bright, bold and colorful murals that tell the story of Jollibee’s origin, history, food and global reach,” she said.

Jollibee, which is known for its crispy fried ChickenJoy and sweet-tasting Jolly Spaghetti, is present in 34 countries and continues to expand globally. He recently opened his flagship restaurant in the heart of Times Square in New York and Philadelphia.

At the height of the pandemic, with social distancing and other health and safety protocols in place, Jollibee at Micronesia Mall had a busy drive-thru window.

Lines of vehicles snaked around the mall, and the idea of having two drive-thru windows was born out of the realities of the pandemic.

“We are very pleased, considering the long lines, even weeks after Jollibee opened at Micronesia Mall and the long drive-thru lines during the pandemic. It shows how much this restaurant is valued,” said said Baluyut.

“Joy is Coming”The Agana Mall, meanwhile, posted announcements about Jollibee, the latest on November 10, with a photo of the Jollibee mascot entering the mall, with the caption “Joy is coming.”

Jollibee billed itself as a place synonymous with “joy” and its most famous offering, “ChickenJoy.”

Jollibee will be among major tenants that have recently joined the Agana Mall, including the third storefront of Guam’s Ross Dress for Less chain of stores, which opened in March.
