The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A witness identified as Zack told WTOP news partners at NBC Washington that he was at a nearby barbershop when he heard gunshots.

“I just heard about 40 gunshots, just continuous gunfire, and people were scattering,” Zack said. ” I could not believe it. Everyone was surprised.

Another man told our partners he ran into the mall.

“For someone to just open fire in that parking lot – that’s wrong,” he said. “My friends work in this hair salon. I grew up with these guys. These guys are my friends, they make me look good and I know they’re scared. I know they are worried.
