Frasers announces the opening of its Derbion department store

The highly anticipated opening of a new department store in Derbion is set to take place next winter.

Development work on the new Frasers store, which spans three floors in Derby Shopping Centre, is due to start this summer ahead of an opening now scheduled for the final months of 2022.

The center’s largest unit was previously occupied by Debenhams for over a decade, before it closed in Maylast year, much to the chagrin of many buyers.

But promisingly, less than four months after closing its doors, Frasers Group, headquartered in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, has signed a deal that will see Frasers open there.

The store will have 127,000 square feet of retail space, enough space for more than 40 tennis courts.

Inside, there will be a beauty salon and dedicated areas for storing men’s, women’s and children’s fashion.

A Sports Direct store will also operate on one of the three floors, meaning Derbion’s existing Sports Direct outlet on Level 1 will close when Frasers opens.

Under the same agreement, Flannels, which offers designer brands such as Balenciaga, Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana, opened on Level 2 of the center in mid-December.

Earlier this week it was announced that another Frasers Group brand, Jack Wills, would open a new store in Derbion this spring.

Adam Tamsett, Managing Director of Derbion, said: “As part of the major rental agreement announced last year with the Frasers Group, we have already welcomed FLANNELS to Derbion with great success in December.

“Conversion work on the newly announced Jack Wills unit will also begin this month and is expected to open in late spring.

“Development of Frasers is expected to start this summer and we expect it to be open this winter.”

In other Derbion news, several stores are offering ranges of romantic gifts within two weeks of Valentine’s Day, including jewelers Beaverbrook’s, Pandora and Goldsmiths, chocolatier Hotel Chocolat and florist Enchanted Rose.

Rollersnakes, the long-running Derby skateboard and streetwear retailer, has extended the trade at its pop-up store until next Tuesday, February 8.

Spanish fashion brand Mango opened its new store on level 2 in mid-November. It offers a range of women’s fashion and accessories, as well as men’s clothing, children’s clothing and homewares.

SD Home of Menswear, stocking formal menswear from a wide range of well-known brands, also opened in November on Level 2.
