Elderly women targeted at Bunker Hill Mall

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department said this week that women, especially older women, appeared to be targets of burglaries and robberies after being followed in their homes.

The crimes, although the number is unclear, originated in the large Bunker Hill Mall and the Katy Freeway.

The popular shopping area is usually crowded, especially around the holidays.

“She had no idea, had no idea what was going on,” Kyle Campbell said on Friday.

Campbell’s mother was followed from the mall to a home in Jersey Village by three men in a rented van.

What these men didn’t know was that the Houston Police Department was watching and following them.

“We have had burglaries and robberies where suspects follow elderly women from the grocery store. Our Midwest and West TAC units have implemented a proactive investigation with DPS.

The three men, who are in custody with pending criminal charges, were arrested near the house. One of the men left on foot and rushed to a day care center, but the 29-year-old suspect was quickly apprehended after becoming entangled with an HPD police dog.

“Oh my God, you all could have been really hurt. You know, we really could have. I mean, I’m not very tall, it wouldn’t take much,” Campbell said.

Police are reminding shoppers that it is essential to be aware of their surroundings when moving from place to place this holiday season.
