Berlin crash: car crashes into department store, leaving ‘bodies everywhere’

At least one person has died and dozens are injured after a motorist swerved onto a sidewalk and knocked down everyone in his path.

Emergency services cordoned off a street in Berlin, Germany, where around 30 people were reportedly injured on the corner of Rankestraße and Tauentzienstraße, west of the city.

Of the injured, including students, a spokesman for the Berlin fire department said five suffered life-threatening injuries.

Celebrity John Barrowman was at the scene and claims to have walked past “multiple deaths” in what he fears was a terror attack, although this has not been confirmed by authorities.

A dramatic shot shows a Renault car crashed through a department store window with emergency crews tending to victims with helicopters landing further down the road.

Berlin police spokesman Thilo Cablitz told media that the Renault driver first rammed into passers-by at the corner of the road before returning to the road and eventually crashing into a shop window at about 200 meters.

Police say the driver of the car is being questioned whether he deliberately drove through people around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The actor tweeted: “We think we witnessed a terrorist attack here in Berlin, we’re not sure there’s a lot of dead bodies anywhere, we saw a car that came down the road and drove off. is found in a storefront three blocks from town, it’s pretty gruesome.”

Crouching next to a tree in the street for his own protection and a flashing fire engine parked behind him, John recorded a video talking about his view of the incident.

In a second video, John confidently tells his Twitter followers that there are “several deaths” and “hundreds of emergency services” in the area.

He added that he and others in the area had been ordered to leave as the cordon stretched.

John said: “I have to say thank you to my friend Mikey K, my friend who rang the bell while it was happening and the first thing he said to us was to get behind a tree. The ex-serviceman from Mikey.

“He said get behind a tree, put something between you and anything that might fall on you, so we did that.”

The Berlin Fire Department tweeted: “#Rettungsdienst_Einsatz in #Charlottenburg in the #Rankestraße with several injured #MANV. About 60 emergency services are currently on site or on the way. Update follows…”

The tragedy happened at almost the same spot where an Islamic extremist drove through a busy Christmas market, killing 12 people, including the driver, and injuring 70 others in December 2016.
