All McArthurGlen Designer Outlet stores that opened and closed in the first year

It’s been a year since the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands opened to shoppers on April 12, 2021. The £160million outlet opened on the first day non-essential retail could reopen after the third lockdown national of the coronavirus last year.

From the time planning permission was granted in 2016, residents of Cannock and surrounding areas have been eagerly awaiting the historic shopping centre. Along the way, there were traffic complaints and outrage about the massive 50ft signage, but now it’s finally here, residents seem to like it.

Over the past year, it has created 900 new jobs in the region, while customers have tasted 30 tons of Haribo pick and mix products and purchased more than 100,000 handbags. Others drank over 400,000 cups of coffee and updated their beauty routine with 888,000 beauty products.

And as a dog-friendly center, the outlet has also welcomed 50,000 dogs since last April. While sustainability remains an important goal, with 3,000 trees planted.

This week the center is celebrating with huge giveaways for visitors – but how many stores have opened since the outlet opened? And how many have closed, and are all the original stores still open?

Stores that have closed at the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet

In a successful first year, only one store closed at the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet. Gap announced in July last year that all 81 UK stores would close as the brand went online – and that unfortunately included the Cannock outlet, just months after it opened.

Huge discounts were on offer on the site before they closed, with discounts of up to seventy percent up for grabs. The outlet’s Gap store closed permanently on Saturday, September 25.

The shopping village is located in Cannock, just off the Eastern Way, a 30 minute drive from Birmingham. Normal opening hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The outlet opened on April 12 with brands including Fred Perry, Nike, Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Ted Baker, Coach, Radley, Le Creuset and Yankee Candle. The center had hoped an additional 12 to 14 new stores would open by mid-2022 – before turning to expanding the additional 50 stores.
