8 intriguing ideas for the former Debenhams department store in Bristol

Speculation is rife over the future of the former Debenhams department store after we revealed that the huge site has new owners. The six-story building sat empty for nearly 18 months after the company went into operation.

But now it looks like something will finally happen to the store with work underway to remove interior fittings from the store last week – although boardings above the main entrances to Horsefair and St James Barton remain sealed.

In the meantime, we asked our readers what they would like to see in the historic store – and the responses were very interesting with suggestions ranging from a laser quest to an indoor food market.

The comments left on our Facebook page also show that people are united in not wanting student accommodation. Former Debenhams stores in cities like Gloucester and Leeds are being turned into student apartments.
