22-year-old arrested in connection with Coachella mall shooting

A suspect in a shooting at a Coachella mall has been arrested, authorities said.

The shooting took place on May 30 at around 2:10 a.m. in the 49200 block of Cesar Chavez Street, in the mall where Food 4 Less, Big 5 and Fallas Paredes are located.

A Riverside County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said a 25-year-old man was shot multiple times as he walked to his vehicle following an argument at a business. A woman was also hit with a bottle.

Both victims were hospitalized and are expected to survive non-life threatening injuries

Investigators were able to identify a suspect, a 22-year-old man from Coachella. The suspect was located Thursday, around 5:20 p.m., at the home of a resident of block 84200 of Redondo Sur.

A search warrant was served on his home and the suspect was taken into custody. He was incarcerated at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, where he is being held on $1 million bail. He faces attempted homicide charges and is due in court on Tuesday.
