1 dead in shooting at SF Bay Area mall

A man died in an early Friday morning shooting at a San Jose mall, officials say said.

Police received a report of the shooting at the Plant Mall at Monterey Road and Curter Avenue at 6 a.m., the San Jose Police Department said on Twitter. Most if not all businesses in the mall were closed at the time of the incident, police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The San Jose Police Department is investigating the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident. The victim’s identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after next of kin are notified.


The shooting marks the 22nd homicide of the year in San Jose, police said in a news release.

The Plant is a popular outdoor mall with over four dozen retailers including Home Depot, Best Buy and Target. It is located seven minutes from downtown San Jose.
